It’s not just women who get stretch marks! There are a fair percentage of men who get them too but thanks to hairier bodies, they are not as noticeable. However, just like women, the guys do get self-conscious about their stretch marks and seek the same treatments.
Main Reasons Guys Get Stretch Marks
Except for the pregnancy thing, most men develop stretch marks for the same reasons as the ladies. In youth, growth spurts and excessive hormones can trigger these tiny little skin tears. And of course, at this age, guys are not thinking about the need to rub Vitamin E, stretch mark treatment cream or cocoa butter into these areas to prevent stretch marks!
Athletic training and body building are two likely contributors to the male stretch mark brigade. When muscles suddenly start to build where there were none before, skin tends to stretch to the point of tearing. Fast weight loss or weight gain also can put a strain on the skin causing stretch marks in men.
Of course, there are other factors like nutritional deficiencies and certain medications like steroids that may also contribute to male stretch marks. Diseases like diabetes or Cushing’s syndrome can be added to the list as well.
Macho Stretch Mark Treatment Options
Men have the same stretch mark treatment options as women but some are too self conscious or macho to follow up on them. However, the tide is turning as men are becoming more fastidious about their appearance. In addition, the male cosmetics industry is growing, providing even more acceptance into beauty products for guys.
Surprisingly, there have been studies conducted by men’s magazines and websites which say that men are more likely than women to consider dermabrasion or surgical options to reduce or get rid of the stretch marks. While women are always going to be the largest population seeking stretch mark treatment, men no longer have to feel self-conscious about it.

Agreed! Vanity in men are getting pretty popular these days. Only a few people will think of you as gay if you’re a little vain as compared to a few years ago where macho men care less about their appearance.
