It’s a shell game these days when it comes to finding a stretch mark treatment that works for you. Testimonials for the latest lotion or stretch mark skin cream may have you opening your wallet but have you considered adding an exfoliating step to your stretch mark treatment routine? This along with the right stretch mark cream could be very helpful in maximizing your skin’s appearance.

Exfoliation Beliefs

Buffing dead skin cells away to promote the production of new skin cells is the basic principle behind exfoliation. Most people who exfoliate areas of the body like the face, arms and legs find their skin glows with health, brightening their appearance. The same principle works for stretch marks.

Stretch marks can look rather dull over time but with routine exfoliation – two to three times a week – the skin on and around the stretch marks will lighten, improving the appearance. While exfoliation will not totally eradicate stretch marks, it does pave the way for one of those lotions or stretch mark creams to penetrate more effectively through the skin.

Look in your Kitchen Cabinets for a homemade exfoliant!

There is no need to purchase fancy exfoliating scrubs when you have all the ingredients in your kitchen cabinets to make your own. Sugar or salt provides the “scrubbing” part while grapeseed oil or olive oil provides the “conditioning” part. If possible, choose grapeseed oil over olive oil as it has several essential fatty acids and antioxidants, key components that promote the regeneration of healthy skin.

Place enough sugar or salt into a bowl for one exfoliating session during your bathing routine. Pour just enough oil to cover your scrubbing ingredient and mix thoroughly. In your bath or shower, buff lightly into affected areas using your fingertips. After all areas are covered, resume your normal shower routine and wash off thoroughly.

Once you have towel dried, apply one of your regular stretch mark lotions or creams of choice while the skin is still moist. Your newly exfoliated skin will be more susceptible to the effects of a lotion or cream and you should hopefully see more positive results within a few weeks.
